Honoring the Past with Contemporary Artistry
Chiyomi Designs offers elegant and timeless, yet contemporary, jewelry featuring high luster Tahitian pearls. Genuine Tahitian pearls are cultivated in salt water throughout French Polynesia, primarily around Tahiti and Bora Bora. The hue of each Tahitian pearl is carefully matched with semi-precious and precious gemstones, baroque pearls, and exquisite accent beads and charms when designing bracelets, earrings, and pendants. Chiyomi Designs also preserves the traditional craftsmanship and intricate artistry of vintage handmade silk kimonos made by Japanese textile and garment artisans and family members. The silk kimonos are redesigned to honor the past with contemporary artistry.

Tahitian Pearls
Tahitian pearls are exotic, luxurious pearls that are cultivated in warm salt water in French Polynesia, primarily around Tahiti. Since production is limited to a specific region it adds to the rarity of Tahitian pearls. Referred to as black pearls because they come from the black-lipped oyster, the pearls are distinctive and have a natural dark coloration. However, Tahitian pearls actually come in a wide array of overtones including peacock, green and purple iridescent, silver, charcoal, aubergine, and blue. High-quality Tahitian pearls have a rich luster, a deep mirror-like shine, that reflects light and enhances the dramatic colors. This makes Tahitian pearls both natural and rare.
Cultivating Tahitian pearls is a time-consuming process as only one pearl is grown in each oyster. The process takes at least 18 to 24 months and many oysters do not survive or produce high-quality pearls. Other qualities that make Tahitian pearls rare and unique include the shape - round, baroque, oval, button, teardrop, and circular - and the size of the pearl.
